So the Tempest had .3 and my new rain gauge had .25. Hmmm doesn't bode well for my ytd total lol, might be worse than I thought

Here is my experience with electronic rain gauges (had several over the years):
- the pivot arm sensor increments .02 when the weight of the water moves the lever - which in my experience can be inaccurate
- The pivot sensor does not always record when the lever moves - not sure why (I tested this be moving it manually 100 times for 5 passes)

The old fashion cylinder rain gauge works the best and both types have a hard time measuring rain when it falls sideways in my experience of 20+ years. Of course you have to place and mount it properly and follow the directions to a tee

After now just getting home from the office - my confidence has been lowered for any meaningful rain in Monroe today/tonight. GSP just backed off there assessment at 1pm as well. The atmosphere here in Union county is the same as it had been the last 3 months; sunny, hot, no wind, no cloud (or very little) movement.

I am trying to staying encouraged and positive - but I have to say something is not right with these forecasts and the modeling. My confidence in both are at all time lows - and I am at the point of show me, don't tell me mentality.

If you are/have been sunny most of the day you should be in the game until the front finally gets through overnight

The Tempest doesn't have moving parts, it uses a haptic rain sensor on top of the unit, measures rain as soon as drops hit not waiting for the tip. Also yes I've used other gauges for many years as well, unfortunately in winter I'll forget to dump it, freezes then splits lol.
Sideways rain isn't an issue either unless there are obstacles close by to block the rain, which isn't the case

Mine only records rain about 59% of the time now. Idk

Early storms and clouds seem to have taken a bite out of PM convective potential so far, but the high country has woken up. OFB moving in from the southeast as well

Happy to be wrong here in this case - picked up a quick half inch. I think I am so ready (like everyone else) to have this schit pattern in our rear view mirror. I dont like this type of weather (persistently) and will move in the future - just don't know where yet.

58/58. We have already hit our High for the day at midnight. Rain/ drizzle keep it up all day, we will stay stuck in the upper 50's. Ditto that for tomorrow as well.

0Z Euro Op and EPS says we only have one more small 2-3 day window left to kiss the 80 degree mark over here and we can kiss them goodbye after that. That would be next Tues-Thurs. After that its normal Fall weather all the way out. Max is low-mid 70's and mid 50's at night. The CFS is still advertising the 1st morning the ole heat comes on briefly around Oct 8th-10th latest run.

Of note is I don't see any evidence of the big wet. Everything, including CFS paints 1-2 inches qpf at best for a large chunk of the board. caveat is this is typically our driest season of the year. Should see this start showing up LR over next week or so you would think with super el nino.

Beautiful day outside, now if those larger rain totals can sneak in here will be just what the doctor ordered. Long way from drought relief but it's a start I guess
