Pattern Sweatember

I'm feeling this could be one of those years where we get a mid to late October Big Headline storm running the seaboard. Should have all the ingredients by then. Active STJ coming to like, warmer than normal sst's Gulf / eastern Atlantic. Just need some cold NS to come in and tap.

The super-strong 1982 El Niño produced a big windy, cold, and wet late Oct storm that went up the E coast just offshore. I remember it well because I happened to be in D.C. at the time.

A strong cold front thanks to a 1034 mb Canadian high (strong for late Oct) had moved well offshore the SE US on Oct 22nd. The front stalled and a sfc low formed near 30N, 75W on Oct 23rd. It strengthened to 1004 mb as it moved N to the Outer Banks on Oct 25th while there was the lingering cold 1030 mb Canadian high over the NE US. This 26 mb gradient over just a 550 mile distance caused strong cold NE winds over and near much of the E coast.

As a result of the combo of this cold high and the strong gradient between it and the coastal storm, GSO had record low highs on Oct 23-24th of 48-47 and its 2nd coldest high on record on Oct 25th of 48. Also, they had >2” of rainfall Oct 24-25th:

Heavy showers have moved from offshore W to my home at 1:40AM, a total surprise!

Follow-up: I’ve been getting more showers moving W from offshore on and off since ~10AM to add to what I got late last night. I’ll check later to see if all of this added up to all that much.

Edit: Heavy showers moved W from offshore to my home at 2:25PM.

Edit: Another shower/rain started 5:10PM

I’m at ~0.35” for all of 9/9 as of 8PM.

Wow!!! I had no idea Chattanooga was that hot. I always assumed you were closer to the weather in Huntsville or maybe slightly cooler.

Maybe we are in a microclimate. Our longest 90° stretch this summer was 11 days, August 28- September 7. The streak ended today with a high of 85°

No 100° days this year, we hit 99 twice. I definitely won’t complain compared to some of the reports I have read on here from NC and OK. Oklahoma doesn’t surprise me, but North Carolina definitely has.
I realize the airport (KHSV) may not have reached 100, but we did get to 100 on the 3rd and 101 on the 5th at my house, which are the first 100s in September since 2016 in my station's 11 year PoR.

It still looks like around the 20th were closer to normal for now which by then is closer to 80

I mean at least it won't be record highs and never before seen streaks anymore. Today was day 40 over 100 in OKC

It's gonna be a slow process I'm pretty sure. I've been saying it'll probably be October before it's really over

But I also still have big concerns about the super El Nino being warm overall to begin with. I've said it before but a lot of the analogs don't have me very optimistic about winter

After the last couple mornings weren't too bad, you could tell this morning was more like a summer morning.

Hopefully the ridge really is going to be beaten back after next week.

Moist pattern coming up! IMG_6495.png ☔IMG_6493.jpeg

Well, we did it, we broke the record. Today is the 39th consecutive day with a high temp of 90+ for Chattanooga. The last time we didn't reach 90 was on August 3rd lol. The old record of 38 days was set in 1993. Looks like we probably won't hit 90 tomorrow due to high probability of clouds/showers but if that setup falls apart, we could easily make a run at 45 days.
