Pattern Sweatember

More decent rain falling here last few minutes (since 3:45), to add to my 0.35”, but radar shows and skies suggest it won’t last more than a few more minutes most likely.

Edit: 3rd rain from a shower fell just after 5PM. Looks like another quick one.

Edit: updated total for Sept 7th here: ~0.4”

I haven’t been on this forum in awhile, but just thought I would peek in on what everyone is saying about this crazy summer. Mods will probably move or delete this post, but I am in awe as to why there is not a climate change forum or very little dialogue, of any, about the climate crisis we are now in. The amount of denial is just sobering and shocking. Of course, that is why we are in this position since the deniers have won. As people are commenting on this site about the heat ridges, El Niño, “ it has to cool off eventually, right?”, everyone has their head in the sand. This is why I have not visited this site much, since discussing the obvious has either been banned or ignored. Unfortunately, we are going to suffer a lot more than just continuing to lose snow opportunities in the future. As a physician, I am saddened by the suffering I am already seeing due to our rapidly heating climate, and worry about what is to come.

There aren't global warming, climate change, or political threads all for the same reason and it's not because of some deep conspiracy. But I will get my head back in the sand now!

Touche. Just goes to show the real problem is no one can communicate about it. I’ll just go back to ignoring this site and not saying anything about it. Y’all enjoy discussing the weather.

How has the warmer climate caused suffering in people’s physical bodies, from a medicine standpoint? Genuinely curious.

First of all, the world is not going to end tomorrow. Do you want us to jump up and down to say the sky is falling. Is the climate warming? Has it been a hot summer? Sure, but how much of it is due to humans versus mother nature? That's really the debate. What do you have in mind to change the behavior of humans or countries that may contribute pollution (China and India) much more than others? The world and esp the US has been throwing $$ around but to what degree has it helped? We can discuss until we are blue in the face, but tell me how that helps. From what I have read, the ice caps should be melted completely by now, right? The coastlines and major cities should be flooded over, right? Mother nature has a remarkable ability to maintain stability and the climate moves at the speed of molases. One large volcano can alter the climate for years. El nino and la nina are huge contributors to the global climate. How much is due to humans versus nature? I'm more than willing to discuss and debate in a separate channel, but this isn't the one. I don't think anybody has their head in the sand, but we're just not freaking out to the degree you want to see, I guess. It might be best just to sit back and post less.

Just an FYI it's unfortunate to hear that you do not enjoy the site and I wasn't trying to be rude. To put it simply over the years we have tried to provide threads for all subjects and most devolved into a chaotic mess that spilled into the main weather threads. Once we remove and no longer offer those threads the reaction is always that staff is withholding those threads because of whatever variable fits a narrative which simply isn't true.

It may be seen as selfish, but when I actually see the powers that be and the movie stars actually give up their private jets, their fifty mansions and lifestyles that use more carbon in weeks than I will use in years and put their money, and I mean most of it to stave off doomsday; I'll start to care.
 
You know as hot as this summer has been it's kind of funny actually we've had a year just this decade with no 100s(which is about as rare as this summer).. and temperatures were about -25 outside the city in February 2021. There's a day from January a few years ago that was one of the coldest highs ever here(only 3 degrees off the all time). Go figure. We've actually been closer to the all time low than the all time high this decade

Actually in February 2021 in Dallas it was the coldest since the 1800s I believe. Just some interesting things about our weather

Well for one day we are near normal I guess!

Thursday
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. High near 87
 
A shower coming moving SW from offshore started here ~5 minutes ago. It likely won’t amount to too much due to it likely being brief due to rapid movement and it not being large.

Wow!!! I had no idea Chattanooga was that hot. I always assumed you were closer to the weather in Huntsville or maybe slightly cooler.

Maybe we are in a microclimate. Our longest 90° stretch this summer was 11 days, August 28- September 7. The streak ended today with a high of 85°

No 100° days this year, we hit 99 twice. I definitely won’t complain compared to some of the reports I have read on here from NC and OK. Oklahoma doesn’t surprise me, but North Carolina definitely has.

Yeah as someone who grew up between Bham and Atlanta I'm surprised Huntsville has been so much cooler. I always thought of Chattanooga as like higher elevations/cooler growing up. Going on weekend trips to Rock City and Lookout Mountain

Out here... Yeah. Nothing stops the extremes. There will come a day in the next few months where nothing stops the cold I'm sure and I can't wait haha
 
The 0z Eps most importantly as well as the 0z GFS says the Euro Op is on Crack for the day 10-15 period. What's a 25 degrees diff in 18z temps among friends. Eur Op has it mid 90's here, while rest in 70's
 
I'm feeling this could be one of those years where we get a mid to late October Big Headline storm running the seaboard. Should have all the ingredients by then. Active STJ coming to like, warmer than normal sst's Gulf / eastern Atlantic. Just need some cold NS to come in and tap.
