Kharg may be the real target tonight. Checkmate if we take that. I suppose many would have said it was impossible to rescue the airman deep inside Iran surrounded by terror pigs. It wasnt.

From the Iranian standpoint its a easy call, they will not reopen the strait for nothing, they are willing to accept a lot of damage till they get what they want. Hell the US will be doing their job for them, think about all the Iranians who might be wanting regime change that could die from these attacks Trump is promising, that helps the mullahs. Then the attacks could cause a lot of the ones wanting regime change to turn on the US, in the meantime the price of oil continues to climb and Trump is dealing with all the fallout leading into the mid terms etc. Its a disaster for Trump and the GOP.
In the end this was a giant misstep on the USA part, for some reason they did not account for Iran closing the strait, or the people not rising up etc. We are at the point where we either walk away or severely ramp up the conflict and even then its really damn easy to slam even older tech rockets and missiles into thousand foot long oil tankers, Iran could sink dozen in a single day and destroy the worlds oil market. The only reason they have not done that yet is it would be cutting their main source of income, but if the US starts to wipe out their entire infrastructure I suspect they hit the tankers and take everyone with them.

Ok so what do you think the Iranian response would be then? Just to throw their hands up in the air and give up? They control the strait taking Kharg doesnt change that. If they lose their access to oil revenue they will try to return the favor, which will be easier for them than you think. They can sink oil tankers at will, there is little we or anyone else can do to stop that short of controlling the entire Iranian coastline and even then they can still hit them.
How many dead American soldiers is capturing Kharg Island worth? There is little chance the US can take the island without losses.

Seems officially Iran has left all peace talks and diplomatic attempts to end the war, citing Trumps threat to end their civilization as the reason.

There is something very ancient in Iran and we are going in there to get control of it. There was something ancient in Iraq too and we found it and built over top of it. There is something very unique under the ice in Greenland as well and it's important that we get to it before others do.
Which would pretty much end them. That would be the most stupid thing Iran could do.
Would force the Arab nations hands to help despose of them.
It may be the case that the genocidal talk is saber rattling / distraction, but genocidal talk is nevertheless not acceptable. Insane times.

The currency is already worthless and with no money the Iranians will be hard pressed to do anything. Even NKorea is distancing itself from Iran now. Russia and China will do nothing.
I regret the nuking the fountain comment. Wouldn’t have made the joke if I knew POTUS was threatening to end a civilization. (yea it was a reference to Israel instead of us, but still not great timing)
Agreed the threat is crossing a line. I get it’s probably all bluster, but I fear the threat alone will have long term geopolitical consequences far beyond what’s happening with Iran. Short term actions attempting to "win" the current situation, but will hurt us in the long term domestically and globally. Just my opinion though.

Honestly I hate to defend Trump's dumb mouth, but his comment probably refers to a sort of patronizing the Iranian government than a threatened genocide which leans into his "God bless the Iranian people" comment he ends with.
Stupid, over dramatic and a bad use of words, absolutely, but that's the same old same old.

So would letting the US control Kharg island. Iran has already said they will go after all the oil ports if the US attempts to take Kharg island.
It would hurt them no doubt, but there is an exit scenario there through peace deals, blah blah, the regime finds a way to survive.
But, if you tick off your neighbors into wanting you gone and not having to deal with you again? That is the true end.
Yeah, that’s the issue with these sorts of things. Bluster, bluffing, threatening allies, etc. may work well in the short term, but in the long term they can have negative repercussions.
In this case, we also risk painting ourself into a corner with no way out. Even if Trump doesn’t plan to follow through on his words, if Iran doesn’t relent, he’ll either have to follow through on his words or look like a chicken.
Anyone that thinks he is gonna eliminate the entire Iranian people is a fool. Sorry, yeah maybe poor choice of words, but obvious he was referencing the evil regime and all that support it. Good grief. Fact is some of y'all want him to do it just so you can point out how unhinged, deranged, whatever else you can think of about Trump because you hate him that much. And have for 10 yrs.
Because of President Trump's insulting language, more and more Iranians turning against U.S. and Israel actions in Iran.

The issue isn’t whether or not you can infer his intent. It’s that a sitting president’s words actively shape global decisions. Imprecision at that level can carry significant consequences.
Highly doubt anyone here genuinely wants him to follow through.
