Wintry March 16/17 2026 Snow

Snow water equivalent (SWE) for our snow this morning was just under 0.25". If we were to assume a conservative 6:1 ratio, that would be about 1.5" of snowfall, which considering warm surface melting would match well with the 0.75-1.00" observed.

ETA: where I was going with that is that rates may have exceeded 1"/hr for the 90 minutes of heavier snow that we experienced.

I just drove home through everything winter could offer. It would go from rain to pouring snow to sleet within feet of each other.

Just had an epic convective sleet-to-snow squall north of Atlanta with wind gusts over 30mph and wind-driven ice that quite literally stung. Almost turned the mulch white and lasted about 10 minutes.

Yep. It'll be interesting if the snow showers over NE Alabama can break containment over the next few hours, too.
