Misc General Banter Thread

Yall can call me w/e idc …. This winter will be a B+ for me if it’s over

SN/IP Total - 16”
ICE - .2”
Days under 10 - 3
Days under 15 - 6
Total times I saw Snow - 7

While yes on paper it was great, Didn’t really see any earth shattering cold nor did I satisfy my Giant Mixed bag event 6+ snow / 1-2” Sleet / 1/4” ICE. Also, after further Review….. the amount of Jan 26’ may be the biggest of my life outside of Feb 2004 / Feb 2014, However Feb 2014 was more fun imo, the build up was better the traditional style system proves it was stronger. I had almost an inch or more QPF in that one. Jan 26’ was cool but it Fluky imo…. Only squeezed like .43” liquid or something out. Very appreciative sure, but in my mind I’ve still yet to find a worthy opponent of Feb 2014, 12.5” Snow/IP mix is better than even 18” all snow …. It has staying power. That snow was vapor by Monday Afternoon last week.

Some of you people will never be happy or satisfied no matter how much Snow or Ice you get.
I would have been more than satisfied if early models verified and Raleigh didn't get dryslotted. But when you haven't had 10" over a full winter in 22 years (when it happened once every few years before that) or even reached your 1991-2020 mean in this entire decade, it's hard not to be a little disappointed when you get dryslotted in a legendary storm for much of the region.

It feels like this winter is going to get an A or B grade from a lot of us in the Carolinas but I’d be lying if I said I’m not a bit disappointed here looking out into the extended. Maybe after years of being punched in the teeth we’re just hard to please

Honestly I have mixed feelings about this winter too... I mean yes I always had a fear about the second year Nina being rough(boy did people nail that one in the plains and Western US!) yes considering we've been near 80 half the winter seemingly I'm amazed we even had a real snowstorm and actually it was probably the biggest storm I've seen here but I guess the thing for me was even the snowstorm kind of fell flat. It really was nothing like what the models said or people were acting like it would be. I probably shouldn't even complain but like it gets tiring here when everyone hypes everything as the worst storm ever

I guess I just assumed there would be something else and now we're back to 80 degrees. I dunno. I mean we're probably gonna have finished this winter with a record number of days above 70 im assuming at this point

On the other hand I havent missed much work this winter at all and it's really not terrible to not be cold all the time with no precip which is a big issue here some years

Its funny it's the people that have gotten more snow recently telling us to be happy and deal with it. That or they point out some mythical storm that this "area" got that it didn't or they reference a storm a quarter century ago that has been paid back and then some as some trade.

This winter is an F, wasted cold, hot on Christmas day, below normal snow. Next

Bruh, the the cameron crybabies stormed the court in '05 after #1 ranked Dook beat an unranked Vatech team. It's burned in my brain because it was so sad.

And please let's discuss the Flopowski injury where he initiated the contact with the fan rushing the court and in doing so was injured. Hearing about the injury from Scheyer it sounded like they may have to cut off his leg and he would never play bball again, but it miraculously healed and he played in the next game. But with the incident Saturday night, has there been any video or photo proof that one of the 250 dook toadies, ooops I mean black clad staffer got punched and bloodied by a heels fan. Or could it have been that the toadie, er staffer, while doing his secret service like job of protecting the dook victims(players), ran into an elbow of Heels fan celebrating a win on a last second shot against a higher ranked rival? Could be either, but I'm not taking Cryerface's word for it, he has a tendency of embellishing deets.

Please take your pious dook blathering back to the Devil's Den and start scheming how to get the Heels back in a month at Hansborough Indoor Stadium. Because your victimhood is showing.

That was fun. Also, check out this website.

I can see you were the teacher of those fake classes at the University No Class.

If anyone is interested in reading me ramble about AI Weather models -

Great info. Though seeing something called “deterministic” in the same sentence as “something AI” gave me pause. Briefly. lol. I get it. Different context.

Just funny in that I was trying to explain, earlier today, why prompts to generate code (for development) can vary wildly with the results. Even though you enter the same, exact prompt. Was hammering the home nondeterministic thing with LLMs.

You will get some good snow before winter is over.

The frustrating thing about the Triangle area is we haven't truly cashed in on any recent opportunities. It's either been mixed bag winter storms with very little snow, or 1-2" of powder with very light QPF from coastals while eastern NC scores. We've also been too far east to cash in from ULLs as well. It really feels like a whole different universe up in Greensboro or Greenville when it comes to snow.

Dang man, I was hoping for something more original and damning than a comeback found on any PackPride forum. Plus, with the amount of jobs and houses provided to the parents of dook's top recruits over the years, you should probably mind that glass house.

Anyways, the Heels lost tonight and Miami fans stormed the court. I need to focus on finding some U fans to tell them how embarrassing it is that they stormed the court after beating an 11 seed and that it is only allowable to be excited after winning at Natty. After that I'm gonna go yell at some clouds.

P.S. - How is that dook staffer injured in the court storming, have they made it out of the ICU yet🙄?

On a weather note, it was awesome to get back into the 60's today, was finally able to comfortably burp the house this winter.

How much money you want to put on the game in Cameron big boy. How confident are you in your boys. You only show up to play us. I heard the Duke staffer passed unfortunately. That's what theo pinson told me. That's what he will be remembered for now. At least he will be remembered for something. Go back to talking about beating Coach K now and Michael Jordan. It will make you guys feel better. It's funny I never heard ---- from you until the other night. Keep it up. You're not scaring anybody.

Winter is stupid
I ------- hate weather
---- snow
Winter is over here! 3 straight weeks of 60s , weeklies suck balls and cold is evacuating Canada
Kitty Hawk got more seasonal snow than I did here! I’m out
Need to delete my account
---- severe weather too
I hope it wedges until August
This some BS

I was gonna say it's hard to believe winter is over here but on the other hand this entire winter except for one storm has been hard to believe... Heck it's even hard to believe it even snowed really! I just don't get it

Oh and I better never hear about the stupid groundhog ever again. Hopefully it's dead run over grilled fried after this

If ya'll vote out VA from the site, then NC is next. Domino theory and all that.
I don’t know, with the way winters have been recently, we may have to vote out Florida and Louisiana first. 🔥

Thanks! Yeah I get it’s a bit confusing. These ai weather models are indeed deterministic, same input = same output. ChatGPT and other LLMs are probabilistic/generative models, like the ensemble methods!

I’d give the winter grade a B for my back yard. Almost an A but a super warm Christmas and a torch once again for February threw a wrench in any chances of an A

EL NIÑO will restore Fab Feb to its former glory next year.

Lol, Nino hasn't done us any favors since I can remember. Maybe if we can get a nice weak one it would be nice, but it always is too strong and the jet blasts us.

I'm giving this winter an A- even though I missed the CLT storm. Cold, wintery, and constant tracking for 3 weeks was great. Hard to ask for more than that. At this point I'm used to winter ending first week of February. It sucks but it's what we do.

The streak has ended at 19 days …. There is currently no more snow on the ground…. It’s 62 degrees and depression is setting in as I see the writing on the wall. This one is over, and it will be time to sweat in around 6 weeks. The worst time of year is knocking on the Door. My annual just get me to October has begun

I suspect winter grades are going to be highly variable and location dependent. There will be lots of A/Bs but also lots of D/Fs. For me, my long term snow average has been 5 in and I got 5.5 so I am going with C+ for snow; still no big dog or banner year. For cold; yes there was a nice two week period to end Jan and nice early cold in Dec but there was historically warm TG and Christmas weeks and Feb is complete no show; yet again. I'm going with a D for cold. Overall grade then is maybe a C-. Way better than the last two years, mind you, but historically only average at best.

I like La-Ninas for the cold they bring. El-Ninos are wetter but also warmer. This winter made me a Nina fan despite what the stats say.

Actually, despite the last 3 El Niños not being cold, El Niños have been colder than La Ninas on average in the SE. This includes the great winters of 1884-5, 1885-6, 1904-5, 1911-2, 1939-40, 1957-8, 1963-4, 1965-6, 1968-9, 1969-70, 1976-7, 1977-8, 1987-8, 2002-3, 2009-10, and 2014-5. Thus, I normally prefer El Niños despite some La Niña winters being great like 1892-3, 1917-8, 1964-5, 1983-4, 1984-5, 1995-6, 2010-1, 2017-8, and 2024-5. And now I should add 2025-6 to the La Niña list although it’s going to end up NN rather than BN with big ups and downs.
