Wintry Machine Learning Mauler 1/30-2/1

I think that's the main issue. 3" is good, but when someone 30 miles away is in double digits it's hard to be as satisfied with that. That's the situation a lot of the Triangle is in now, LOL.
I’d gladly take 3”. I’m sitting at TRACE quite literally and the death band 10 miles east is stalling.

That slot today was evil. Think y’all are gonna get paid on the back end but I’ve been there before man. :(

HRRR says we've got another inch or two, tops, although it also was blanking us earlier and it's been snowing here since 1pm or so, so yeah. Think I may be too far west to get the best from the coastal, too far east to get the best from the ULL. Sort of like your spot might've been in the Christmas / Boxing Day 2010 snowstorm where there was the ULL stuff on Christmas Day before the coastal blew up overnight into Boxing Day and there was a relative minimum in between of spots that got fringed from both.

Damn, I was outside for a while and didn't realize how bad it still is in Raleigh. I think you all get more snow than I do from here, and you definitely have a shot at 2-4", but that's crazy considering how close you all are. I'm sort of in between, where I'm 30 miles from 10", but also 30 miles from zip, nada.

This is probably more so around 8.5-10” on legit surfaces but this is a grass measurement here in E/NE CLT. The band won’t stop nuking, about 4 hours of straight nukage and still going strong. Gonna threaten a foot View attachment 192923View attachment 192924

Update, same exact spot, that was 5:50pm when I last got that measurement, here is a new one at the same spot (7:10pm). Closing in on a foot with steady moderate snow (GRASS measurement fwiw) IMG_3899.jpegIMG_3897.jpeg

I finished at 9”. I had people a couple miles away saying they had between 11-12” and we were all under the same bands. Places in northern Greenville county that didn’t get that last death band were sitting at 8” so I might be closer to that 11-12” mark. Just no way to know with all the snow drifts. I took mine on a table out in the center of the driveway to try and get the most accurate I could, but even it likely had some taken off the top tbh. But I’ll stick to my 9” measurement

This storm has definitely tested my patience. Lol! I literally road that line all day. Then starts closing in all around me. “I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue”. For those old enough to remember the movie Airplane. View attachment 192959View attachment 192960
I’m just sw of you by US1/64. Still nothing and hopefully this starts pulling away. It should be east of us by midnight. And we done with the never ending snow hole nightmare.

Gotta be one of the better Jeb Walks I've ever done, starting in the daylight and walking out into the night, along with a stop at McDonalds for a milkshake and apple pie! I'd estimate we have somewhere in the 2.5-3.5" range, but that's just eyeballing it. Haven't measured it yet. I am going to have to check and see it looks going into tonight. Snow is pretty light at the moment, but it would be great to push into the 4-6" range and make this feel like a legit storm. Would love to make 6", but that may be too much to ask? As it is, we have topped most grass blades, although some people keep their grass really high in the winter, and those are still standing tall above the snow.
Downtown?

I'm torn because I'm not sure the east precip band will get this far west, and I am getting hit by the west band as it is. But I'm sure the east band has more potential for higher totals for us. What a close-run storm, getting fringed one way or the other.
Hope this eastern band makes it to you because it’s finally puking snow here after hours of light to moderate rates from the western band earlier - I trust it will!!

Just not an enjoyable one here in CAE. Entire storm was summed up by 1 45 min burst of snow. Some back end snow working in now that might give us another inch, but I’ll unfortunately remember this one more so for the exciting days leading up to it rather than the day of the storm itself. Congrats to everyone that scored & for the Raleigh area filling things in & saving things at the last second.

I’m at 2 inches. Enjoy the night fam.

Picked up another 1" on the driveway in the last 90 minutes. I *think* that'll put me in the foot club, lol. I'm not putting my boots on anymore. It's still a lot of small flakes right now and have a couple hours of that I think. My work is complete.

Beep beep boop boop. Foot of snow for this human. Good night!
