Misc General Banter Thread

Does the average person really give the mets crap for any of this? We might just be inside our bubble where we are all weather nerds/weenies

The general public who are not weenies like ourselves 100% give them crap. I try to keep my friends informed and when I tell them to buy generators and food for a week and we get 50 degrees and rain lol

One problem is that Facebook, etc now pay for engagement. Some of these less professional pages are paid for clicks meaning they're incentivized if crazy weather is predicted. A few local GA/SC/NC mets have started getting much less conservative since becoming fb verified.

Oh yeah, Glenn Burns had to Block like 300 people yesterday because of all the hate. People take the weather very seriously !
Last night david chandley put it all on the line and said it could be a "generational ice storm" and "an icestorm so bad that none of us have seen before". Talk about some strong language on the air lol

That temp gradient on the short range Canadian when the wedge erodes is pretty wild.

It has it at 70 briefly at the border of one county to my south while I'm in the mid 30's.

James Spann and Glenn Burns at least have both posted about their trolls before

There's probably others. Heck sometimes I get attacked just for commenting on something haha

There's a lot of other comments I see about not trusting the Mets or paid to be wrong etc

I don't know if you saw my post on this but during one spring time wedge a number of years ago athens was 35 and augusta was 85. It's amazing how stout the wedge front can be.

I need to shower, get dressed, pick up some prescriptions, prepare the pool house for sub-zero temperatures with no power, and change the oil in my little generator. Yet, here I am, anxiously awaiting each of 10 model runs and reading every post here. I need an intervention!

Brother, I can't go 5-10 minutes without constantly refreshing this page when we have a SE winter storm threat and I ain't even in the crosshairs 90% of the time. I need to see a shrink. I'm running on empty.

Tracking the storm next weekend without power after this weekend will be exhilarating!

Are we walking back the no impacts to Augusta yet?

Tbh there's still a very clear failure mode that wouldn't surprise me and that failure mode is no precip until after the low transfers and the wedge erodes.

This GFS run is very close to suggesting that now.

In case you're wondering, no I don't have influence here lmao. The stores have been a madhouse and my dad went to pick up non-perishables.

This really is going to be bad. lol. I'd guess more total power outages than with helene... and probably some longer durations too. Especially if Atlanta winds up with .25+ of ice accretion and I think they will.

It will be interesting watching OBS drop off as power goes out for people and their phones eventually die. 💀

I'm not too worried about power because I live very close to a substation and have never lost power during major weather events in the past but I/my family do have backup plans of course(we can't afford a generator sadly).
