Misc General Banter Thread

Did you change your location to hell or has it always been that lol.
For real I think tonight’s the night we start seeing some fantasy runs. I got a feeling. Could just be the actual runs though.
Nah I changed it. Although I think hell has a better chance of snow than me. Lol I think we'll make the new year with still no hope in sight. Shortly after we may see signs it'll maybe change around the 20th and give us about 10 days to score. We **** that up thats all she wrote!

I knew we had a chance of another crap winter for snow but that early cold shot and a cold start to December gave us all false hope. The response to all that below normal is possible record breaking warmth for Christmas which is good for golf luckily for some of us. A bit of optimism im leaning toward is we are due for a good February..long over due. So the last 3 weeks of January through Valentines we are gonna score...im hopeful

Most of the ensembles aren't even cold enough here for anything haha. I dunno what the 0z Euro was smoking but I want some

I don't expect much before mid January at the earliest

Two months is very generous. In most years winter is over by the end of January in Atlanta. Especially over the last 10 years.
The first ten days of February are prime time. After which, average daily temperatures rapidly rise.

But yes, if by the first of February we have no threats at least on the horizon, I tend to start checking out.

I’ve got a feeling you will do well in February. But it’s just a feeling.

I keep telling people here we don't even get much this early. The best snow I've seen in December was in Breckenridge last year lol

But this signal around New Year's is meh to me. The GFS is near 60 degrees at the same time haha

January looks like an all you can eat buffet of -PNA.

You can toss all those random statistics about +PNA Januarys following -PNA Decembers out the window

Pacific: Don't cry southern snow weenie, we got plenty of -PNA to feed you in January before the inevitable Fail Feb kicks in.

I refuse to give up on winter on the solstice.

Every winter has its warm spells in the south. IMO, as much as I would love the holiday period to be frigid and snowy, it's better to go through this now than late January.

I agree with this. The scary part is possibly dealing with this now AND all of January.

If you think January is warm vs normal, wait til you see February.

If we don’t change the Nina base state enough we are probably toast because thus far we have not gone off script overall.

But as I recall, you’ve already gone against the grain and said several times that Feb would have good prospects if La Niña ends early enough. Do I have that correct?

What do you mean that we’re not doing enough? How’s ENSO looking to you for Feb?

I would like to see a big and slow MJO event to go across the entire Warm Pool in January and I am not seeing that.

These Convectively Kelvin Waves are moving us towards El Nino of course, but the westerly wind bursts from them aren’t as strong or sustained as I’d like them to be to zonally advect the warm pool eastward more quickly.

Our only ticket out of this crap mid to late winter is to push the warm pool east enough to extend the pacific jet to a point where we get a +PNA/+TNH/+NAO pattern instead of a -PNA/+TNH/+NAO. That seems less likely to me than say a month or so ago given how the Warm Pool has behaved to this point

First day of winter played nine holes of golf and shot 39!

Nice 10 years ago I had my closest scare to a violent tornado in Dallas on the day after Christmas... And that was the only thing I remember about that entire winter!

Just saying. We've had way worse weather than what is going to happen this week

I don't remember anything Noteworthy about the winter of 2015-16. I think the Northeast had a big snowstorm in February 2016 ?

I managed to get lucky and sneak in a snow event that stuck briefly at home that may have been somehow related to that event for my first winter back with my parents (which, we won't talk about the years beyond that for now, although yes, I do work and pay for most of my own stuff now besides food, took a while before we got there). Wasn't much, but hey, it was unexpected. I threw snowballs at my dad while he was trying to jog.

That was it until early 2025. I had honestly thrown in the towel. But it does appear that snow is still possible deep in the south, it just takes a metric ton of cold, not sure I'll see a sig wet snow event again unless I move (really want to say the last wet snow event was 2010 here, though the first January event was VERY close if you made a few tweaks), but I preferably will never be leaving the southeast.

Would not mind us turning into an El Nino state. It would be nice to have a wet spring and summer. We had a wet summer this year by pure chance which was the first one since 2020.
