TN has over 7 million which is a decent population !Basically the most populated state that actually gets snow. GA has the same population but a lot less snow, FL and SC don't get snow.

Go Cyclones
Safe from me too in that thread.
Deterministic models can never get a forecast wrong can they? The GFS AI can't be worse than the regular GFS, can it?
Guess who's back? Back again. Are we back

I think its mostly that almost everyone from NC left Americanwx and relocated here. The other threads over there, New England, NYC, Mid- Atlantic are very busy with people from Maine to Virginia.I just don’t get it. Do people in NC follow the weather more than people on other states ? There seems to be a disproportionate amount of weather weenies in NC.

You know things are bad and people desperate when people are posting 300 plus hour model plots and taking it semi seriously. I mean I'm super desperate too but lol
This may be out there, but the time period that middle aged adults were growing up, you had a lot of major weather events in North Carolina. The Crusher, Fran, and many more that could have impacted kids and teens to become interested in meteorology.Despite most of the AmericanWx NC people coming here and not still also posting actively there, their SE forum remains as NC dominated as ever and is much more NC dominated than here. That’s mainly because even a higher % of the ATL metro folks stopped posting there. I can recall only one ATL area person posting there regularly now (suzook). Also, they never had N AL people like this has always had. The very few of AL folks there are with TN people in their TN Valley forum.
I know.. I'm half joking..and i know there is nothing else to do...but when i see posts actually breaking down how it could happen that's what I mean by semi seriously.I don’t think they’re taking it seriously. It’s mainly entertainment. They know better.
People would still complaincould you imagine if raleigh got a half inch of ZR and then it snowed a foot and a half
i think they'd call in the marines

For those who have been around a long time like myself in the old days it felt like everything was dc centric. Nothing mattered unless it involved dc/the mid Atlantic....drove a lot of us crazy. Its not that bad and i wouldn't ever insult the nc posters by comparing them to the dc weenies but there are some similarities. I think it has a lot do do with they are just more vocal and frankly there hasn't been anything worth talking about for everywhere else. We haven't even been able to get digital snow or ice in fantasy range in ga or sc yet.I just don’t get it. Do people in NC follow the weather more than people on other states ? There seems to be a disproportionate amount of weather weenies in NC.
Nah some don'tI don’t think they’re taking it that seriously. It’s mainly entertainment. They know better than to take it literally.
I really think we need a section just for NC and another one for everyone else. This place truly feels like a NC forum sometimes. Especially this time of year.
I've been blessed wx wise. 1970's in the mtns, 93 Blizzard mtns, Hugo , Fran, Crusher, Feb 2004 (17.5 inch ) ULL mauler, Dec 2002 Ice apocalypse. This may be out there, but the time period that middle aged adults were growing up, you had a lot of major weather events in North Carolina. You know I used to think that way. That it had to come around again someday. But, what if it actually don’t lol. It is possible that it just doesn’t happen for most of us again. Atleast in our lifetime.I've been blessed wx wise. 1970's in the mtns, 93 Blizzard mtns, Hugo , Fran, Crusher, Feb 2004 (17.5 inch ) ULL mauler, Dec 2002 Ice apocalypse.
But that was all pre-internet days pretty much. It was still dial up , not convenient even in 2004. Point is , I cant imagine any of those events occurring while we have this board , open forum. That would be a hoot/ fun. But your right, hard to have had the experiences we got to witness back then. But be of good cheer. There will be blockbuster ticket events again, just give it time.

It has been a long time since I've seen winter outlooks as bad as this. Looks like it is over before it even officially starts. Wow.View attachment 179240
I mean the fairly obvious answer is that NC is among the northern most states in the region thus more chances for snow and ice. Also, because the state runs west to east and has a fairly significant mountainous/foothill region compared to the other states, more people have the ability to get significant snow events more often. Contrast that to states like GA and AL and the difference in climate between the northern and southern tiers of each state is much more substantial.
IMO, Atlanta posters do get active when an actual snow event is happening(or is being realistically modeled) in their backyards, but to be honest, the weather has been really boring here for the entire back half of 2025. The only really notable event was the early August chill. Beyond that, barely any severe weather, no tropical weather, and only a few signficant cold fronts.
Just hope 2026 starts out strong like this year because it's becoming very clear 2025 is going out with a whimper, at least here.
e might have a significant severe thunderstorm event if the latest GFS is right.Logically, you have to think that eventually we'll luck into another snowstorm at some point; I mean FL just set records last year. But it sure feels like, at least for the upstate, that it just can't happen anymore. We haven't even seen fantasy snow this year. You know I used to think that way. That it had to come around again someday. But, what if it actually don’t lol. It is possible that it just doesn’t happen for most of us again. Atleast in our lifetime.
