Pattern Outside of the SE thread

So just in the last 12 hours here I've seen a post about no Arctic air anytime soon and another post about how it may be like the only year it snowed on Thanksgiving here

These people have gotta make up their mind 🤣🤣🤣
 
The OKC TV met was openly talking about Arctic air and winter weather on TV last night 👀

Right around the 1st

He was downplaying the whole winter a couple weeks ago 🤔
 
Definitely getting a lot more chatter here about it

Even some of the skeptics are getting concerned about ice especially when we still have trees with leaves

Yeah I'm not really believing anything here yet other than another quick cold snap but like the signal is definitely attention getting

To be so early too. Heck it was still almost 90 in Arkansas the other day ..

Can’t help but be at least a little worried here that the pacific jet might extend a bit too much and kick this trough east at the beginning of Dec, esp considering how many times that’s happened this year already.

Yeah I'm seeing a lot more chatter about it locally today for sure. People who said no way a couple days ago are even bringing it up 🤔

I'm questioning how much precip there will be... Usually these have been pretty dry at least down here

IMG_9043.jpeg Going full international here, specifically the Netherlands. They have an event called the elfstedentocht which is an absolutely legendary, 200km skating race (maybe the most significant sporting event in the world) that hasn't taken place since 1997 due to insufficient cold. It needs to be cold and dry to allow for 15cm of ice. Usually 14 days of frost is needed. Usually the best setup is when rossby wave breaking occurs in mid Europe, creating a high over scandinavia and allowing for the "russian bear" setup. The positively tilted trough it creates is very important, because heavy snowfall would really stunt ice growth. Anyways, the "elfstedenkoorts" or elfstedenfever is kicking into high gear now in the Netherlands as the chances of a race seem to be growing (slightly).
