Pattern Sweatember

0.76” on the month at RDU. We actually picked up four one-hundredths last night.

Good chance we end the month above normal with 94L on tap, as well as the rain the next couple days. Then again, a non-trivial proportion of our rain this time of year comes from tropical systems.

RDU had 7.99” of rain in August and 6.28” in July (though MBY might’ve been 10”+ in July given RDU somehow only got around an inch from Chantel). We need to keep up all this precip for winter…

I'm thinking it'll get kicked out and not affect any land, except maybe east of I-95. If it does not rain tonight, it's over for a while. Probably 2+ weeks.
plz look at 500mb

it just flooded here, hopefully you get some this evening

Today will be mostly dry too. That big area of rain from earlier fell apart. The latest GFS is fairly dry for most of NC and NC for today. The drought will go on it looks like.

Had a brief shower yesterday as the ULL exited, but just 0.03", so now up to 0.16" here this month. Most of it came in what felt like a 20 minute storm earlier this week. That may be it, NWS has only a slight rain chance Tuesday as Imelda's outer rain bands will not stretch inland. Then early October looks milder and continued dry

ILM has been discussing high chances of rain across the forecast area today with .25-1” totals. There’s nothing on the radar on land or near shore. Wonder what they were looking at today that didn’t materialize?

Really curious what kind of a “deformation band” sets up tomorrow or Tuesday. Need a bit of a soaking.

But, it's not 101-103 like in 2019....I'll take that right there no question

Yup I keep trying to tell people that we have nearly hit 100 in October before

So far I'm not seeing anything much over 90 at worst

Heck we're still very lucky that week in August didn't get above 80 😂 people just like to complain

Lets give it a few days, the 70s/50s will be gone here in a day or two, they almost are already, and now we have some heat in the longer range.

Those afternoon temps are gonna try real hard to stay above normal going into October. With abnormally dry conditions and slightly lower dews and humidity, doesn't take much to efficiently warm the surface layer. At least it will be pretty decent in the evenings.

Light rain showers from the outer, outer, outer stuff of Imelda. We will rebuild. /s

No, but seriously, it sucks that the lows have backed off quite a bit for this week and it looks like for the second week of October will be above average.

I got ~0.05” last night. That gets me to 0.95” for MTD. There is a small band moving SW from S SC that may give me a little more soon.

Edit 9/30 9:05AM: That band yesterday afternoon gave me ~0.09”. Gives me 1.04” MTD. A few showers are in the area this morning (9/30), but amounts should be very light.

I didn’t realize the airport hadn’t gotten any rain lately. Hopefully their rain gauge is more accurate than the temperature sensor that moves in four degree increments in five minutes.
Definitely a rainfall hole over the city

Back to Back sub 70 degree days as we close out September. Streak of BN months is now officially at 2 here in Greensboro. Can we make it 3 in a row come Halloween? I'm betting the streak right through the historic winter we are fixing to have.

" The Year of The NE Pacific Blob will go down as the greatest SE winter in decades "

Max 91
Min 55
Rain 1.67” (maybe a few hundredths possible today)
This compared to 10.36” last Sep (NOT including the 27th after Helene knocked out power & thus recording for the station. Was probably more like 16”-18” for the month) I think I got more in an hour on 9/27/24 than I did the whole month in 25
