US also holds the Mediterranean blockade card, most nation states consider it an act of war. If things really go south.

Parallels with uncertainty could be made towards the South China Sea.

Agree. Could be worse than Ramadi.....Never thought I would say that!

Nasiriya, thankfully our team punched through before ---- really lit up but it was bad. Gotta love the Cent Comm detach at the last minute, we flew in to country on helo with COC comm gear, forward elements directly back to MARCENT up to TS-SCI. When we moved the perimeter was manned with Marines carrying shotguns, never doubted air cover but at times it was close.

With 3rd MarDiv, HQ Bn, Comm Comp, they sent me to school including the perimeter among other things, still think 8th comm knew and that is why I was tasked. Train the trainer on 249,240,50 at 3Div HQ Bn level, and then the comm stuff with 2nd MEF, I went to about 9 months of comm school. Regardless, war is violent, chaotic and sustained, I don't know how better else to describe it.

Speed and maneuver with clear dictation of the operational tempo wins. Ukraine is still severally outgunned absent pop centers which are very difficult to occupy as we have seen here.

"Now that Russia has made these false claims, and China has seemingly endorsed this propaganda, we should all be on the lookout for Russia to possibly use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine, or to create a false flag operation using them. It’s a clear pattern.”

- WH Press Secretary

Fits the bill with Syria, but would be detectable almost immediately if it were to occur. No two ways about it and given US Intel creditably up until this point carries weight.

When this does progress into urban warfare it will become a proxy war. Militias and every other nasty will pop up out of the shadows and it could be a bad situation for civilians for a very long time

10% degraded seems to be best guess, human toll, transport, air, with maybe logistics 30% but Russia has the forces in place to execute and it will get uglier.

I wouldn’t call this political. But the department of state posts this.

We have the goods but not tactical for decades, in no way have we weaponized BC in the current battlespace.

If Russia did use biological or chemical weapons what would be the response from NATO? What additional sanctions and actions are remaining that could be executed short of using military action?

I imagine a pretty quick call to setup a no fly zone, and placement of anti rocket/missile systems like Patriot/Star Streak/Iron Dome in Ukraine etc would result from such actions....at least I hope that is what would happen. The chances that the US and NATO get involved go up dramatically if Putin uses chemical weapons especially if it is on civilians....that can not go unopposed.

“Raytheon Company is enhancing the Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) System under a $235 million modernization task order from the United States Army. Announced by The Department of Defense (DoD)on January 30, 2018 the system upgrades will be funded by the 14 nations that rely on Patriot for integrated air and missile defense. This is the first of five annual, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity task order awards with a total contract ceiling of more than $2.3 billion.[38]The 14 Patriot Nations are United States of America (USA), The Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Israel, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Taiwan, Greece, Spain, Republic of Korea (ROK, South Korea), United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Romania”

Brain Food

Grim if the dead civilian total for this town is true, and honestly there is no reason to doubt it really.....you add, Kharvik, Kherson, and the dozens of other towns being shelled and I think we probably have already seen 10-15k Ukrainian civilians killed....

Reclass…

“The B-2's combat debut was in 1999, during the Kosovo War. It was responsible for destroying 33% of selected Serbian bombing targets in the first eight weeks of U.S. involvement in the War.[7] During this war, six B-2s flew non-stop to Yugoslavia from their home base in Missouri and back, totaling 30 hours. Although the bombers accounted 50 sorties out of a total of 34,000 NATO sorties, they dropped 11 percent of all bombs.[128] The B-2 was the first aircraft to deploy GPS satellite-guided JDAM "smart bombs" in combat use in Kosovo.[129] The use of JDAMs and precision-guided munitions effectively replaced the controversial tactic of carpet-bombing, which had been harshly criticized due to it causing indiscriminate civilian casualties in prior conflicts, such as the 1991 Gulf War.[130] On 7 May 1999, a B-2 dropped five JDAMs on the Chinese Embassy, killing several staff.[131] By then, the B-2 had dropped 500 bombs in Yugoslavia.[132]
