Come on @smast16 . We’re just following things as they unfold on multiple levels. I’m just personally interested in seeing where this all leads.
I suppose but I’ve seen tweets in here every day for as long as this thread has existed . Tweets from a bunch of randos essentially saying “ it’s ratcheting up , troops moving , war imminent “ for a week … how much more ratcheting up can you do lol. Troops are already on the border . It all seems blown out of proportion and hyperbolic at times .

We can just close thread if everyone is worried about hysteria. That's what happens during conflicts . I'll stop posting tweets . Would to hate to escalate Things on a chat board

Don't do it man. Then I might have to go on Twitter myself for breaking news. Every time I go there I'm reminded of Obi-wan about Mos Eisley cantina..

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."

There is a lot of credible information on Twitter that comes out before any US outlet has it. Of course, there is a lot of conjecture out there too. But you can't discredit someone's information just because it comes from Twitter.

Hows about we turn the drama down a notch or 3.

JFC. I'll take my time out now.

Agreed. My personal reluctance for going on twitter is more about the difficulty of filtering out hot takes while looking for useful breaking news.

I have a real life friend who is complaining about the arguing in the threads. Listen, don't be political here, and don't like be stupid.

Realize that Putin is doing a power play and if he were to invade Ukraine, there is not a chance in Hell for him to lose. His military budget is 10x that of the Ukraine +. Empowering Russia and China is the goal here, sadly.

Thanks.

USAF, 4 B-52s are in the UK, 4 more arrived in Guam yesterday. Scary times.

Well I just looked for some positive news on this (meaning signs of de-escalation) and I can't really find any. The only good news is we've been talking about an invasion for quite awhile, and it hasn't happened yet. So that's something.

On the negative side, the promised Russian withdrawal (yesterday?) apparently involved just moving some troops from Crimea to another part of the border, while adding 7k more. The current negotiations appear to be just a series of demands. Pretexts for war are being banded about, and apparently the Russian embassy in Kyiv is burning documents. That last one by itself (assuming it's true) should give anyone pause as to how this is currently going.

I think people underestimate Ukraine's ability to defend itself....the Ukrainian army is no slouch...Ukraine has 200k active soldiers and 250k in reserve roles so that's close to half a million potential soldiers, plus millions of former vets....they have a lot (1500-2000 ) of the older T-64's that have been upgraded and 500-1000 newer T-80/T-84's. Over 1000 Javelins, and thousands of Russian anti tank stuff....plus hundreds of artillery pieces...Russia would have to launch a massive attack to be able to be sure to deal with all that.

Putin would be better off testing the waters in Donbas first...

This is VERY interesting. Fairly short read. Actually, I learned quite a bit.

The most interesting news so far today is the announced evacuation of citizens from the Russian republics in eastern Ukraine to mother Russia.
