May 2021 Discussion Thread

I thought Summer was supposed to in full swing by now, but then I looked at all of the Models and they have NC/SC Temperatures ranging from the mid-upper 40s-mid 50s at NOON time on Wednesday. Basically all of NC and almost all of SC may fail to see afternoon Temps get past 55 for a day or two.

So NW trends aren't just for winter storms eh? Regardless of amount at least it looks like a good steady, widespread rain and potential for a nice soaker certainly is there

I don’t think anyone is in danger of setting any records. I still don’t know what the GFS is seeing to have these runs with early afternoon temps in the low 50s around here. The forecasts I’m seeing have temps basically around 60 which certainly well below average, but not at all completely unusual with widespread rain

Not at all the average coldest may high is 62 here I believe so very normal.

You gotta love it when your 7 day forecast does not have a high over 75......in mid May in eastern NC......springs like this are rather elusive, I cant remember one recently or even in the last 10 or so years where we consistently had cooler dryer air masses....

I think it has a lot to do with the massive loss of sea ice.

I mean, we're getting a little rain, most of the days are absolutely gorgeous, and we even have a chance to set a record. Weather-wise, what more can you ask for? Dude! :)

It sorta loses its punch when every type of weather at every time of the year gets blamed on massive sea ice loss.

A warmer Arctic is not allowing the PV to consolidate over the pole and you end up with pieces flying around at lower latitudes.

I don’t think you get really close to the record because most places in the Piedmont will probably see tomorrow’s highs set at midnight tonight and then hold in the 50s tomorrow with the rain. On a good night it does look like we see a good widespread soaking rain tomorrow which will only help make everything nice and green for what should be a beautiful weekend.
