The middle ground is really three-fold: Recognize the fact that in life, you are going to come across people you disagree with. If you choose to interact with them, do so as an adult and with respect. That’s my major concern of having a political or any highly argumentative topic. I would hate to see hard feelings come out of that thread and seep into the rest of the forum. That’s when a political thread becomes very destructive to the entire board.
So if we can find a way to keep that from happening then I’m all for it! I just don’t want to see the weather threads suffer because (user x) is mad at (user y) from their political fussing so (user x) is just always against anything (user y) has to say regardless of what it’s about. That’s a sure-fire way to destroythe community we have all worked together to build.
If the only way to avoid this is to not have a political thread then so be it. If there is a middle ground option that works let’s do it! I’d just hate to see the entire board pick sides as has occurred on other board(s).
There probably is no 100% correct answer. But I hope we can figure out something that preserves the community we have and also allows us to talk abt as many topics as we possibly can. As for me, I’m here because this is a weather forum. I wouldn’t be if it wasn’t
Secondly, if you don't like a poster's point of view, simply scroll by or place them on ignore.
Lastly, don't visit the thread, if the above two things are too difficult.
If we all chose one of those approaches, there would be zero problems.
There are always posters that are just typically condescending and argumentative and posters that spam threads with partisan ideology and posters that make outlandish, seemingly, crazy comments. The onus is on all of us to react maturely and on the staff to handle the problems.
None of that is directed at you at all. But if we all could just do one of the three things above, we could have these types of threads for those that wanted them and have the weather side for everyone else. And everything would work out A-OK.
