Who Would Like Permanent Political Thread ?

That’s my major concern of having a political or any highly argumentative topic. I would hate to see hard feelings come out of that thread and seep into the rest of the forum. That’s when a political thread becomes very destructive to the entire board.

So if we can find a way to keep that from happening then I’m all for it! I just don’t want to see the weather threads suffer because (user x) is mad at (user y) from their political fussing so (user x) is just always against anything (user y) has to say regardless of what it’s about. That’s a sure-fire way to destroythe community we have all worked together to build.

If the only way to avoid this is to not have a political thread then so be it. If there is a middle ground option that works let’s do it! I’d just hate to see the entire board pick sides as has occurred on other board(s).

There probably is no 100% correct answer. But I hope we can figure out something that preserves the community we have and also allows us to talk abt as many topics as we possibly can. As for me, I’m here because this is a weather forum. I wouldn’t be if it wasn’t :)
The middle ground is really three-fold: Recognize the fact that in life, you are going to come across people you disagree with. If you choose to interact with them, do so as an adult and with respect.

Secondly, if you don't like a poster's point of view, simply scroll by or place them on ignore.

Lastly, don't visit the thread, if the above two things are too difficult.

If we all chose one of those approaches, there would be zero problems.

There are always posters that are just typically condescending and argumentative and posters that spam threads with partisan ideology and posters that make outlandish, seemingly, crazy comments. The onus is on all of us to react maturely and on the staff to handle the problems.

None of that is directed at you at all. But if we all could just do one of the three things above, we could have these types of threads for those that wanted them and have the weather side for everyone else. And everything would work out A-OK.

I agree 100%. I think this “reset” is a good heads up to all of us. At the end of the day we all want the same thing. 2ft of fresh powder blowing in 35mph winds on December 25th :D

It’s easy to forget that there are actuall other humans behind these name tags. We would do well to realize that and treat each other as we would in person.

I trust you mods and others to make the right decisions to protect every poster on this forum from attacks and also their mental/physical wellbeing.

I think one of the most straight forward fixes would be to have a request to join only thread for politics. No other thread would need that type of “security.” Although I have no clue if that’s possible. But then it’s a conscious decision for each person to jump in and it also creates a natural barrier between politics and weather. That or the ability to block/ignore specific threads so they no longer appear would work.

Good post, and I agree....especially about the part of the Christmas blizzard!!

Let's just create a political game with two parties comprised of Democrats and Republicans on the forum that compete in a series of challenges for party control of the forum. The ultimate goal being to bring people of differing viewpoints together for one-party control of the forum for a term of 1 month, wherein the ruling party may oppress and humiliate the malcontents that lost. People obviously need to get out some the aggression and sexual tension that's been bottled up.

We can either go about it the fun route, or we can choose to rely on the savage, heathens to follow forum rules and act in a civilized manner. I have my doubts. Within three months of people on the political thread, there were literally 2 posters that went through all my comments I had written in the last fews to dislike everything I ever wrote. I mean... it takes dedication to be that crazy. I don't see these sort of unhinged personalities choosing to ignore the very posters that make their crazy clock tick. This why they come to the thread.

I think it would be useful at least until the end of the corona virus as there is stuff that parallels both covid and politics. We arent allowed and more importantly shouldnt post political stuff in the covid thread but sometimes it has a political slant........like opening schools back up and so forth.

I'll add this and not much more I can say after this other than I hope you reconsider..... but to look at it from both sides, we also have posters in the political thread that never post in the weather threads. So I guess there could be an argument that what attracted them to this site was discussion other than weather, again it's not an easy answer but I do know running sites aren't free and they need traffic. There are lots of factors to consider.
I am one that posts more in winter. Summer to me is pretty much run of mill. I love summer till August and September. Of course this fall and winter we might all need lots of snow to track to keep our minds of others things.
