Pattern October Oscitance

I was looking back at 2010 Christmas and the 2011 January board wide snow storm. This weather is very similar to what we had in September and coming into October. Before it turned off in cold in December.

I remember going to the fair in October 2010 and it was unbearably hot & humid, temps had to be near 90. Pattern didn’t really change until late October and when it did, it got really cold. I think there was some sleet in North Alabama at the time.

Looks like I picked a bad week to buy and plant pansies!!:(

Anyone know where to find what cities broke records for the month of September?

ATL gets lows into the lower 60’s by the end of the run on 18z GFS so that’s progress.

Can only speak for Atlanta, I did a quick search to make sure I was remembering right, but we had upper 80s well into mid October last year so this doesn't seem that out of the ordinary.

For a few days, nothing like what we are experiencing this year, not even close. Somebody posted on the other board that Atlanta is at 149 consecutive days and counting of not getting below 60F, the old record was 135. The record for 70F plus lows is also being broken at 108 and counting for a single calendar year.

maybe it'll feel like October by Halloween
Well as much as I hate the hot weather. It is nice to be able to do stuff outside. It’s alot harder to do things outside when it’s 30 degrees vs 90 degrees. Funny thing is they keep saying on the weather news that the leaves is fixing to change color due to fall here in a couple weeks. I don’t see that happening (just the ones that’s died from hot weather). They also saying it peak late this month. I really honestly think it will be about December before we peak where I am located.

That wasn’t my point, my point was just to illustrate that having mid to upper 80s as late as mid October has occurred recently. Edit: Obviously October 2017 is not the same as October 2018 overall so far, I didn’t mean for my post to mislead anyone if it did.

You're absolutely right about that.
Thanks for sharing that link btw.

Good news for those wanting cooler weather. The Euro weeklies are much better mid to late month. From 10/16-10/23 colder air starts to finally make it to the southeast. Also, while we have been baking Canada has been building up the snow pack as well as Siberia. This can only benefit us as we get into winter.

DT explains this quite well on his latest week in weather as well.

Canadien was sure interesting.
