I keep a couple of full bird feeders about 50 feet from my Tempest and they leave it alone. I’ve never seen one sitting on it. No poop either. I guess the feeders keep them busy enough to not bother with the station.
I've never seen a bird on mine and no signs of one. Like Ward I have a bird feeder not too far away, maybe that helps. But maybe you just have angry birds ?
So after 24 hours with the Tempest I'm pretty impressed so far. The UV rating is pretty awesome, the temperature is very stable, and the wind readings are pretty accurate as well. The one thing that is very different is the reporting frequency to weather underground, every 22 minutes or so, but the fact that they have their own app that is constantly updated makes needing weather underground pretty irrelevant. I love their interface with google maps that plots all the other stations across the world. I'm still waiting to see how a brutal July sun affects it.

Here's my set up. Just used some random stuff from around the garage. The nice thing is if you take the PVC elbow off the bottom then the pole slides down. Then just spray painted it metallic.
Here's mine, I'm letting it get direct sunlight like it is supposed to be able to handle. So far so good I believe.
