Snowfall Forecast Contest Thread (January 21-22, 2025)
We have $100 in the holdover account from the last contest for the winner. Winner take all. DM me if you would like to donate to increase the pot.
Here's how it will work:
Post in this thread your total storm snowfall (includes snow and sleet) for each of the following cities:
New Orleans, LA (MSY) – “money site” for this contest – see below
Mobile, AL (MOB)
Augusta, GA (AGS)
Charleston, SC (CHS)
Greenville, NC (PGV)
I will take the differential of your forecast and the actual result (absolute value) for each city and sum the total. But we have one twist this time. We will use one site as the “money site” where the results will count double (like the “money ball” in the 3-Point contest). The “money site” for this contest is New Orleans, LA (MSY). Lowest differential total summed from all sites is the most accurate, and the winner.
Example:
New Orleans - Actual 10.0 / Forecast 15.1 (Diff is 5.1, but this site is the “money site” and is counted double, so total diff for this site is 10.2)
Mobile - Actual 11.0 / Forecast 10.9 (Diff is 0.1)
Augusta - Actual 12.0 / Forecast 20.0 (Diff is 8.0)
Charleston - Actual 14.0 / Forecast 14.0 (Diff is 0.0)
Greenville, NC - Actual 15.0 / Forecast 0.0 (Diff is 15.0)
Total Diff for this forecaster is 33.3. Lowest total Diff wins
Rules:
1. You must post your forecast in this thread (no DM'd forecasts will be accepted)
2. Deadline for forecast submission is Tuesday (1/21) at 9:00 AM EST – I will print off a hardcopy of the entries at that time.
3. You can edit your forecast as many times as you like up until the deadline. Just edit your original post.
4. Calculated snow & sleet will come from the airport sites indicated.
5. Amounts should be entered to 1 decimal point / otherwise will be rounded to 1 decimal point.
6. I will payout the prize money via PayPal if at all possible. If another option is needed, we will figure it out. Recipient will be asked to confirm receipt of funds via a post in the thread.
7. This is open to anyone who can post here (Mets, Non-Mets etc.)
8. If there is a tie, the winner will be the poster that had the closest differential at the “money site.” 2nd tiebreaker is for the city that received the most snow. 3rd tiebreaker is for the city that received the next most snow, and on down the line. If still tied after going thru each city, we will split the proceeds among the winners.
