Winter Storm Forecast Contest Thread (February 19-20, 2025)
This contest covers snow for all of Wednesday and Thursday (Feb 19-20…i.e. includes the main system plus any snow from the trailing upper wave dropping in
I am putting up $50 to the winner. Winner take all. DM me if you would like to donate to increase the pot.
Here's how it will work:
Post in this thread your total storm snowfall (includes snow and sleet) for each of the following cities:
Greensboro, NC (PTI)
Raleigh, NC (RDU)
Elizabeth City, NC (Coast Guard Air Station)
Norfolk, VA (ORF)
Richmond, VA (RIC)
I will take the differential of your forecast and the actual result (absolute value) for each city and sum the total. Lowest differential total summed from all sites is the most accurate, and the winner (no money site selected this time).
Example:
Greensboro - Actual 2.0 / Forecast 2.1 (Diff is 0.1)
Raleigh - Actual 3.0 / Forecast 2.9 (Diff is 0.1)
Elizabeth City - Actual 4.0 / Forecast 8.0 (Diff is 4.0)
Norfolk - Actual 5.0 / Forecast 5.0 (Diff is 0.0)
Richmond - Actual 6.0 / Forecast 2.0 (Diff is 4.0)
Total Diff for this forecaster is 8.2. Lowest total Diff wins
Rules:
1. You must post your forecast in this thread (no DM'd forecasts will be accepted)
2. Deadline for forecast submission is Tuesday (2/18) at 11:00 PM EST – I will print off a hardcopy of the entries at that time.
3. You can edit your forecast as many times as you like up until the deadline. Just edit your original post.
4. Calculated snow & sleet will come from the airport sites indicated.
5. Amounts should be entered to 1 decimal point / otherwise will be rounded to 1 decimal point.
6. I will payout the prize money via PayPal if at all possible. If another option is needed, we will figure it out. Recipient will be asked to confirm receipt of funds via a post in the thread.
7. This is open to anyone who can post here (Mets, Non-Mets etc.)
8. If there is a tie, the winner will be the poster that had the closest differential at the city with the most snow. 2nd tiebreaker is for the city that received the 2nd most snow, and on down the line. If still tied after going thru each city, we will split the proceeds among the winners.
Hope you can join in and good luck!
