The second storm on the GFS is modeled to produce the most snow at my location from any system since the February 1973 event, the law of averages says that such a thing is definitely on the books to occur as I feel as if the general Macon, GA area towards Columbia is perhaps the most overdue region in the entire area for a storm of a great magnitude.
 
Why is it so difficult now to get sub ten degree lows at Southern latitudes compared to the previous century? I think that the last time that KMCN went below ten was January 21, 1985, but it was somewhat common before that point in time. This “cold shot” isn’t even going to be as strong as the first week of January 2018, I might not even hit the 19 that I recorded as my coldest winter temperature last year.

I don't think this is accurate. If you look at the annual minimum temperature at KMCN, if anything it has reduced with time since 1902
