of course friday is the day i'll be driving back to NC from DC after a work trip lol. not ideal timing, buuuut if this thing pans out, im quite sure i'll opt to drive part of the way and then stop for the night somewhere snowy and have a little solo snow party before finishing the trek back home the next AM.

for now, i like a light, messy wintry preview for the northwest foothills and high country (and perhaps some of the northern tier of central nc). beyond that i am not ready to say yes

but also, we've got the rest of the work week worth of model runs to get through, and there's easily still fail modes with this bleh setup and could result in even the northwestiest of foothills receiving nada

Hopefully future model runs will a stronger and slower moving high pressure north of us to provide a stronger cold air feed into this event so that we folks south of I-40 can be included in the wintry precipitation that this event is going to produce. QPF totals are going to be light so this will not be the winter storm of our dreams but it would be a nice appetizer for what may happen further down the road if it materializes.

hey chatgpt make me a nuisance 1-2 inch event that pisses of north carolina
if this thing happens, i'll be snagging a hotel somewhere between fredericksburg and richmond so that i dont have to drive through the whole thing friday afternoon/evening on the way back from DC......so, i do co sign this ;)

and if i do stop around richmond and get a little snow there, then im hoping the same pattern will follow as it did this past january: for that 1/5-1/6 storm that hit most all of VA and almost none of NC, i decided on a whim to book an airbnb up in richmond since we hadnt gotten a good snow in the Triangle for numerous years at that point. it was a delightful 4" in richmond and then when i got back home, within the week we got our first measureable snow since 2022. i like to think i brought the snow energy directly back with me from richmond; and i do endeavor to be able to do the same again here lol

This might be the type of event where chasing to GSO or W-S via train would be cool since it'll be too minor to cause any transit issues.

Also, I feel like CLT come Friday will be where NYC and Boston was today with that system up north lol.
