Wintry 1-9/12 IMBY Requests/Comments

Trays of ice cubes dumped on the lawn are more effective.

I buy a bag of ice from a gas station before a winter weather threat. I throw it on my deck and in the yard. If it’s above freezing I figure I’m helping with evaporative cooling. If it’s below and it helps build my snow pack. 😂😂

I hope the NWS and local media is less conservative when it comes to making the public aware of this storm. The Atlanta Metro, with over 6.3 million people, is the largest in the Southeastern United States. I would hate to see another major traffic jam caused by uncertain, unclear, or untimely forecasting and warnings.

My forecast thoughts (1/7 Update) - staying the course for now:

Might I ask what you mean by “light accumulations”? Is that like <1” or are you thinking more like 1-3” or 2-4” with that terminology? Thanks!

Hi! Longtime lurker. Do you all think there will be a northern curve to the cutoff area like some of the models show? I’m right on that 1-20 corridor south of Bham and nervous. I’d love for my kids to see something. We snow chased to Huntsville last January and only received ice.

If you have the means, I would drive up to Bowling Green, KY for this one.

2013 was actual freezing rain. I checked FFC's grid forecast and this is independent of sleet and a potential concern unless colder trends continue.
I'm concerned if our 2m temps drop in to the 29 to 30 degree range. That would start appreciable ice accretion on trees, especially pines.
