Pattern Sweatember

Some bored sunday post-church meaningless climate stats for your reading pleasure -

Earliest, Average, and Latest low temperature of 55F at a variety of major SE sites, period beginning Aug 1:
Greer SC - 8/17, 9/16, 10/15
Atlanta GA - 8/29, 9/24, 10/20
Raleigh NC - 8/4, 9/5, 10/9
Birmingham AL - 8/9, 9/18, 10/13
Tallahassee FL - 9/8, 10/4, 10/31
Nashville TN - 8/4, 9/8, 10/7
Columbia SC - 8/24, 9/19, 10/16

None of these sites have had a daily minT <=55F yet this "fall."
Would be hard to believe at least a few of these aren't knocked off the board Wednesday

Unfortunately I don't appear to be one of them. A few days ago the last week of the month was showing 50s for lows for my area, now it's all 60s. This sucks; we need some fall.

We are about to waste September. We've been so spoiled the last several years with multiple cold fronts in September.. Idk if we can sneak in a legit cold front anymore. The good news is that this means we get a massive Winter storm the first weekend of December so we have that going for us.

hello SUPER Elnino

If you live anywhere from Brent to Mack to the guy in IL to the guy in Maine to the VA boys to the TN/MS/AL/Carolina/GA guys and gals and if you don’t like it warmer than normal, then the latest Bleaklies are bleak as far as the eye can see. :(

The only active members not in endless bleakness are the guy in Montana and Eric Webb.

We're looking at a backdoor type front coming through on Monday for NC and areas of SC north of a line from about Myrtle Beach to Greenville. May squeak down into the upper 50s for a night.

Here's last Sept at GSP. A little warmth around the equinox but lots of 50s and only 1 90. Way better than this year.

Did some personal exploration myself for an area south of you.

Last time we averaged 90+ in September until now with the way we're tracking was 7 years ago. Mid 80s was the average, which I want to say is maybe even slightly below average for September (think the average might be 88 but it drops after the middle of the month).

I'm taking it as the bill is due sadly, and I'm looking straight at the recent winter storm events in particular.

Still worth it though. At the rate I was going, I thought I'd never see snow ever again, so with this year in particular, to go from 80's early in January to wrapping it up with the second legit southern snow event in two years was something.

I'm beginning to say it with gritted teeth though. If I wasn't a ball of anxiety, I'd seriously think about trying it with an area that better suits me for regular visits to the southern mountains instead of maybe a couple times a year at most.

Pickens County airport a refreshing 75/73, CAE at 80/73, GMU 82/63, CLT at 80/63, RDU 80/72, CHS 81/78 at 10pm on Sept 13th. 🙄

Dang that's worse than mine. We at least still have 80s showing up for the weekend. For now... I'm not gonna be surprised if they disappear

The Euro is pretty much Monday before the front clears now

That area is kinda screwed as they're not getting the backdoor front areas to the east are. Maybe if the Euro is right, there will be some relief after this week+Sunday next week, but still not the bigly relief that's hoped for.

Actually, beyond today, it seems like the worst heat is focused on the midsouth for the week due to that backdoor front.

This would be just in time for the Fall Equinox if it happens. The way this summer has dragged on, I wouldn't be surprised if swimming pools are still open at Halloween.
Or we get a cold period from late October into mid-November. Then it warms for December. Seen that outcome too many times.

Rule of thumb here is we always get our first real cold front around October 7th where you have to have the ole jacket in the morning and flip a heat switch when you get out of bed for the 1st time. Give or take a day, but talking upper 30's-low 40's type stuff. Usually in and out after 2-3 days. Frost threats October 20th give or take a day. Despite the Hot streak we are still on and September all time torch possibly, Id be willing to bet the same at this moment.

At least the upcoming pattern as modeled is somewhat prone to wedges. Would be nice to have something scoop that ull out of the gulf and run that moisture over a wedge dome like the 12z cmc but it's really just occasional support for that idea

Look, an AIFS wedge in the mid-long range! Doesn't appear to be completely out to lunch, other ENS have the idea (see AIFS ENS post from earlier)
