March 2026 - Winter or Spring?

Damn, the 12z AI Euro has a bonafide megastorm around D11-13. We don't get clown snow maps for it but it looks like it would be heavy snow to heavy IP and / or ZR for the NC Piedmont. Temperatures at the surface verbatim are below freezing throughout for all the major NC metros with 1-1.5" QPF.

Similar look on the 18z AI Euro. Verbatim, it's too warm at the surface, though. Why am I looking at D10 op runs in mid-March? I need help.

KEY MESSAGE 2: PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE TO SNOW ACROSS THE HIGHER
MOUNTAIN ELEVATIONS THIS AFTERNOON WITH PERIOD OF NORTHWEST FLOW
SNOW THROUGH THIS EVENING. GUSTY WINDS WILL DEVELOP BEHIND THE COLD
FRONT THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY.

STRONG COLD ADVECTION BEHIND THE FRONT WILL BRING A PRECIPITATION
CHANGEOVER TO SNOW ACROSS THE HIGHER MOUNTAIN ELEVATIONS DURING THE
AFTERNOON. THESE NORTHWEST FLOW SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE
EVENING BEFORE TAPERING OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT. THE LATEST GUIDANCE HAS
INCREASED SNOWFALL TOTALS WITH AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 6 INCHES ABOVE 3500
FEET IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ALONG THE TN BORDER. AMOUNTS AROUND 8
INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHEST ELEVATIONS OF THE SMOKIES. THE
GUIDANCE HAS INCREASED THE PROBABILITY OF THESE AMOUNTS HIGH ENOUGH
TO INCREASE CONFIDENCE THAT A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NEEDED FOR
ELEVATIONS ABOVE 3500 FEET FOR THE COUNTIES ALONG THE TN BORDER.
SOME VALLEY LOCATIONS WILL SEE A DUSTING TO PERHAPS AN INCH. WINDS
TURN TO THE NW AND BECOME VERY GUSTY BEHIND THE FRONT. HIGH
ELEVATIONS OF THE NC MOUNTAINS WILL SEE GUSTS AS HIGH AS 55 MPH, SO
THE WIND ADVISORY STILL LOOKS WELL PLACED. THAT SAID, GUSTS TO 35
MPH AND POSSIBLY 40 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR THE LOWER MOUNTAIN
ELEVATIONS, AND SOME LOCATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE MOUNTAINS. THE GUSTY
WINDS LINGER INTO TUESDAY, BUT NOT AS STRONG AS TODAY'S WINDS. THE
COLD AIR MASS WILL BRING LOWS 10 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. HIGHS
TUESDAY 15 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. IMG_0910.pngIMG_0909.jpeg

Yea gonna be blizzard like conditions in high country tonight, Sustained 30mph with gust well into the 50's over 1 inch snow falling. If you are up walking/ hiking around 3500 feet up, best get down hill

Perfect day to catch slab bluegill on a bobber and a night crawler and cook them in peanut oil outdoors View attachment 195169
I’ve been telling the kids we were going to go catch a mess of catfish one weekend soon. Fry them up with hush puppies.

The channels/blues are definitely biting right now, been to a couple locations (yadkin/local pond park and a neighborhood pond, but one caught my eye, a small pond, reason being, the male catfish I caught out the pond (this was the last day of the warmup) were really dark, similar to when you catch em during there spawn in April/May. The water wasn’t very cold either. But the bigger bodies of water are still pretty chilly even when it was warmer. Chicken liver with a tight rubber band is really effective right now

I just took an enjoyable walk in 47F windy post cold frontal 34F dew-point Canadian air at a park. I love strong cold fronts! Trash bins and other things were blown over there from this wind. Looking forward to more walks in this great wx the rest of the week.

Looking for a low in the mid 30s at KSAV followed by a mid 50s high tomorrow making for one of the coldest St. Patrick’s Day parades in a long time! Erin go Blarney! ;)

Currently 15 with heavy snow on the night cam at Beech. I'm very surprised they didn't stay open with this cold and they could easily be making it the next couple days.
