Pattern NC Only Thread

GSO February Snow: Use to always be known as our snowiest month, and for Good reason. It usually was. But the past 10 years have yielded anything but snowy February’s around the Triad. Here’s the recorded snowfall at GSO since 2014. I included the years 2014 and 2015 to show what Feb was usually like. Could have kept going back in time, but it illustrates where things have evolved from.

2026: Currently; T

2025: 1.5, T Total =1.5

2024: 0 Total = 0

2023: 0 Total = 0

2022: 0 Total = 0

2021: T, T, .5 , T. T Total = .5

2020: T, 2 Total = 2

2019: T, T Total = T

2018: T Total = T

2017 : T Total = T

2016 : T, T, 2, T Total = 2

2015 : T, .9, 1, T, T, 1.3, 3, 3.4 Total = 9.6

2014 : 1.4, T, 7, 2 Total = 9
 
March 2014 @ GSO had 6 separate events Frozen = Totaling like 4.2 inches. Add that to the Feb 2014 listed above. That was 10 total frozen events for that Feb and March = Totaling 13.2 inches. I remember, it was a lot of Ice involved, especially March. Which was crazy, as usually you get your Ice events around here during the first half of winter. second half of winter, especially late winter, It's snow or NO.

March 6, 2014 was a major ice storm for GSO. We lost power for several days. Also had a lot of sleet and some snow.

Don’t forget March 2018 was also huge for GSO!

That stream of moisture overperformed in Wisconsin last night. "30% chance of light snow" verified as an inch. The 0z HRRR, 0z 3k NAM, and 3z RAP all whiffed on it in the Appleton area. Euro seemed to have a better handle, so that's a good sign for NC I guess.

RDU projected high tomorrow 64. The last time that was reached was January 9th I believe. Would love another wintry threat soonish, but looking forward to going outside and not having to put on several layers.
 
In North Carolina, spring leaf-out and active growth generally begin when average soil temperatures reach 50°F to 55°F (at a 2-4 inch depth). These temperatures, often reached in late March, also signal the start of spring lawn, weed, and plant growth. Soil temperatures typically rise from the 40s in early March into the 50s-60s range for sustained growth.

Today is suppose to be our warmest day of the week. Forecasted high 69. Tomorrow we get one more shot to crack 60. ( RIP Snow Piles and Shady area Snow).Then its just 50's till the weekend.
Probably make a few more runs at 60 next week. Then we should be able to see if we get that last 10 day window to capture one more winter storm , before we have to wave the checkered flag for winter and Spring starts in earnest.
Golf courses here still have snow all over them. Should be able to open back up wed or Thursday. Everyone can shift their spending from the carwashes to the golf course industry. Every car owned seems like its in line when I pass these places.
