Misc General Banter Thread

What the? This is a window seat?! Maybe Delta assumes I have x-ray vision? This sure is a first for me. The lady on the other side of the plane with the same windowless window and me decided we deserve refunds lol.

The good news is that by reclining, I can see a little bit looking at window behind me. Yes, I’ll do anything to get at least some view lmao! I see some clouds but can’t see the ground.

Edit: I’m about the closest I’ve ever been to Tulsa, @Brent ~6 miles above and a bit N over NE OK.

Oh yeah check the seat maps outside of the Delta site before you book in the future. It should tell you. They tried to get me with that before

Apparently it's not just Delta it's a certain kind of plane I think its the 737 that is very popular and everyone uses. Somewhere in front of the wings at the beginning of economy

I would always try and sit further back because for some reason it's never a problem back there

I'm tempted to make a Delta joke here, but honestly I'm not sure if they're worse than any other airline since I only fly once a year on average.

When I went to UCLA (University of Campbell between Lillington & Angier) I never thought I would see the day when there was any real traffic in Angier or any of other the surrounding communities. Things have changed so much since then with the growth that has taken place during the past few years. Angier still has some of its charm unlike many of the small towns in Wake County which have grown much too rapidly in my opinion.

Yeah, it was still 90 at CAE just before 9pm, and still 86 at 11pm, and the sun sets before 8. A pretty muggy and yucky evening out there but especially for Sept. Early Sept should not feel like July 4th.

Does anyone ever get the impression that this may be overkill? Too many models to keep up with along with being run too frequently? I miss the days of mainly the Euro, GFS, and Crazy Uncle (CMC) and run just twice daily. No AI models. Staying up very late to see the 0Z Euro used to be a huge deal. Now, it’s still important but not to the same extent. Getting blitzed with numerous models and that are run so often is way too much imho.

I hear you and I get it, but I think it’s a temporary spike of applying AI to wx modeling with new teams entering to innovate and figuring out how to apply it. It will dwindle down eventually.

I think of it like when WWW was developed in the early 90’s, and then all of a sudden you get a million search engines. (infoseek, excite, lycos, yahoo, webcrawler, altavista, etc) Sooo many options it was overwhelming back then. And some did stuff well but not in others (hey this one is slower, this one sucks at boolean searches, this one hasn't indexed enough pages, etc) But that was just before Google came in like a freight train. Those other engines are more footnotes than anything and didn’t survive (except yahoo but it’s not the same).

Anyway, some models will do stuff better than others and it will sort itself out eventually. Just my opinion.

I question the accuracy of these temps that occurred in small towns in the middle of nowhere (Centreville and Greenville). I have a really hard time believing it was 99 in Atlanta and 1 hour south it was 112. It was 101 in Columbus that day and Greenville is between Columbus and Atlanta. So how is it 99 in Atlanta, 101 in Columbus, and in between it's 112 ?

I forgot he was banned but laughed when I saw the post and extended the ban to 18 years, well I thought it was years but it was weeks so back to permanent and my story isnt as fun

Ah, I won’t press it then. Was just an excuse to come up with stuff that would torque off most NC people without comparing to other states. 🤷‍♂️

8 days until the move. Fort Mill, SC-> Brevard/Cedar mountain, NC. Moving in 95 degree heat can only be remedied by an epic fall in Transylvania County and one big AZZ snowstorm.
 
Hopefully Accuweather isn't completely lost...
