Mountain/Foothills Discussion and Observation Thread

I’m going to Gatlinburg this weekend models showing a decent mountain snow event.
 
GSP will likely issue Winter Storm Watches tomorrow for at least the Mtns/Adjacent Foothills (McDowell, Burke, Caldwell).
 
Trying to pick my spot in the northern Mountains. It's kind of amazing that this isn't a slam dunk yet. Euro was a good step today but it is still very track/strength dependent even with elevation. snku_acc-imp.us_ma (1).png
 
Yeah the extra 3 hour drive I'm trying to avoid. Really been waiting to get in the 3k and other hi res range to start seeing the mountain tops reflected in the totals. The below is overmodeled most likely but it's been cutting into the snow totals a bit.zr_acc-imp.us_ma.png

Your right, I think I will give it a chance here in Gatlinburg. Models been showing Boone close to that low pushing east of there with a warm nose near by to keep the storm ice/sleet before the change over to all snow. Also models have been keeping area southwest of Boone like Asheville to east TN in the sweet spot with all/mostly snow and heavy at that. I feel good about just staying here where I’m at.

since you are in Gatlinburg, I would think it would be better to go to somewhere in the SW part of NC if you need to, instead of Boone. Much closer.

The problem with Gatlinburg is elevation and where it does snow up the parkway gets shut down during storms I'm sure you will see snow but don't accept much of accumulation unless your above 2500 ft in a cabin up on a mountain. Like near Ober.

Your right, although I still think 4-6 is possible where I’m headed. I’m ignoring the globals and watching the short ranges which pretty much all of them still shows a decent amount.
