Wintry Midsouth Winter Storm January 12th-13th

Oh believe me, watching the NWS radar in west TN, it's painful, it completely reminds me of 3/1/09, just in Tennessee this time. ULLs sometimes like to stall and then eventually the moisture will choke off. Right now the shield is barely moving at all.
unreal... bet last hour i was getting into 2inch per hour rate... slowed up bit... flakes were big as silver dollars coming down hard closing in on 4 inches here with about half inch sleet under that....

I was you in 3/1/09 actually. WSW for 4-6" and nary a flake from that one. That ULL stalled right before it hit my county.

That's the story with ULLs. There's going to be a screw zone with all of them and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
That was rough, I remember that one. A lot of local mets took a lot of heat for that.

I mean, there's not much you can do when everything is showing something winter weather wise, danged if you do or don't.

And it looks like this thing might already be ready to choke off, just...ouch. West TN got a good hit but there's going to be a big area...not just North AL, that might not get a thing from this.

Sounding from UAH...
Sounding data from 16UTC (10am CST) UPSTORM sounding launched from @UAHuntsville in support of @NWSHuntsville’s winter weather operations. Warm nose was still in place at the time, but quickly eroding. Also lacked significant moisture in the snow growth region.

Hunting in Arkansas this morning had 1” of snow on top of a layer of freezing rain. Roads were bad at 630. Driving back to N AL now. Roads in E Ark have improved hope they are ok in N MS

Haven’t posted since yesterday but got a good bit of Sleet here in my county with this system. The further North you went into SW TN the more opportunity for Snowfall. Roads have been so so around these parts but I see there’s been a massive pileup around Mile Marker 119 towards Jackson, TN if it hasn’t already been mentioned.
