Wintry Winter Storm Dec 7-10

James Spann is taking the no accumulation map approach in his afternoon discussion. Here are his exact words

"Snow accumulation should be generally 1 inch or less, mostly on grassy areas and elevated surfaces. Soil temperatures are around 50 degrees, and that will greatly limit the accumulation potential. However, there will be a 30-40 mile wide strip of heavier snow somewhere over Central Alabama, and a few communities could see over one inch."

SREF Plumes show 3" mean here, with several members showing some crazy numbers. Idk in this setup how reliable the SREF would be.

I have seen it before. They will be the first ones impacted, so that is why they are being issued right now. Some will continue to spread as the storm system evolves east.

I also hope you get dumped on. You are a true weenie.
Thanks, i love winter weather, heck we all do. I hope everyone can get this storm as well and all of us be happy .:weenie::weenie:

I am anxious to see Bham's latest SREF plumes. I do not know how often they update, but I imagine they have increased. If anybody has those please post them.

If I knew how to post a pic I would post it, however showing right under 2" for BHAM mean.

It's not just an expansion. The heaviest snow axis is shifting to the north. Rome was not the winners in previous runs. Now it's one of the places in GA you'll want to be at if the NAM 3KM is to be believed. The 850mb temps are also now above 0c in the Atlanta area whereas in previous runs, it was below 0c for a lot of the storm.
Well NAM is not the end all and RAP/HRRR and other short models still have the bulk south thru ATL so not anything to get to worried over yet

That right there is fake news and this is not bantering, I have been burned by the RAP p more than once and as SD pointed out in the banter thread earlier never where we burned more than the winter of 2014 when it showed over 20 in here. With that said I certainly hope this one time it pulls a coup

I'm gonna ask a dumb question, but the strip of pink running along I-85 in GA is supposed to be heavy snow or is it sleet? I wish they would use more distinctive differences in colors for the different P-types sometimes I get the colors for snow and sleet on these kind of maps confused.

That is sleet maybe mixed with snow and rain, but likely just sleet.

More of a rainsnow mix I imagine.

Spann says soil temps are around 50 but im looking at a map that is showing soil temps in the low 40s around here.
Yes, the soil temps are any where from 40-45 in North Georgia. It will not take it much for the snowfall to overcome the warmer surface temps.
