Tropical Tropical Weather Banter & Venting Thread

It's crazy how a Cat 4 hurricane like Charley produced only 6 to 8 foot storm surge but a Cat 1 hurricane like Irene had 8 to 11 foot storm surge. I would never think that a Cat 1 would produce higher storm surge than a Cat 4.
Charlie was a tiny storm that blew up to a cat 4 just before it hit land, therefore having a smaller influence and short time to crate waves. A storm of this size that already has generated the energy and has a larger wind field can do far more than a small one.

Oooooooh, can’t wait for the 18z run of GFS and the N chatter begin again, from the crazy NC peeps! I’m getting goosebumps!

Something interesting I've noticed since last night with Florence is she only likes to flare up one half of an eyewall. For whatever reason she can't seem to go further than that. I think there was another hurricane in recent years that was kinda like that, but it did wrap convection all around the eyewall eventually.

Just looking at the most recent IR, I got a taste for shrimp this evening ...

Simple observation from someone whose been there done that ... she's strong but she ain't wound up like a spring ... lots of space between bands ... so ... keep your guard up after it seems to "calm" b/c in a while or less, it'll ramp again ... in other words, Tasty Freeze won't be open as soon as some might think when a calm spell comes through ...

Started getting some gusts here in the 20-25 range now almost calm. Crazy how this works

Just heard a tv met say if they categorized storms for rain this would probably be a 5..... got me to thinking maybe a scale for rain/flood potential wouldn't be such a bad idea, since so many in the public go off those numbers without paying attention to all the details some times.

They will eventually run out of colors, good idea tho.

Atleast this will bring about the much needed pattern change! As soon as Flo is out , change right back to summer and low 90s! Jackpot :mad:

I’ve been reading up on hurricane seeding. Experiments with silver iodide have been known to broaden out a hurricane’s QPF and slow it down...yes I realize there are no “steering currents” with Florence but damn what’s going on out there. All I know is they better not be seeding my snowstorms come mid January!

What a dud out here! The Euro caved to gfs ! Best case is it goes right over us, but all the rain in north of the storm! We will be lucky to get 1”! What a complete dumpster fire after tracking for like 15 days! Congrats NC, you win again!
